For ever and ever: the timeline

On a length of 70 metres there is a metalcord in the cloister of the cathedral. This timeline symbolizes 1200 years of history of the diocese of Hildesheim. There is a copperbadge for each year, very important years like the diocese’ foundation in 815 have a large badge, ordinary years have a smaller one.

The cathedral-construction-society is looking for sponsors for each year, who support the restoration ot the cathedral by a donation. Ordinary years are on offer for 180 euros, for “premium-years” you have to procure more money: each time 5000 euros are to donate for the cash box of the cathedral-construction-society for very important years in the history of the diocese. Beside that there are sponsorships for a decade. That costs between 750 and 2500 euros.

Who has got his own “premium-year”, like the year of the wedding or a founding of a company, is able to acquire a large badge as well. The clou is: The sponsors eternalize themselves with their names on the timeline and are affiliated with the cathedral permanently. Every sponsor obtains a sponsorship-document and a brochure. It elucidates some events of the last twelve centuries, which were of high meaning for the diocese and the town.
