Restoration of the World Cultural Heritage Hildesheim Cathedral

The Hildesheim cathedral belongs to the Unesco World Cultural Heritage. It was completely destroyed shortly before World War II ended. 50 years after the reconstruction the planned restoration is much-needed. For that reason the cathedral has been closed on 10 January 2010.

Bishop’s appeal for funds for the cathedral's refurbishment was a success

Hildesheim(bph): In November 2011, 302,000 households in the Catholic diocese of Hildesheim received a letter from Bishop Norbert Trelle with a request for a donation towards the refurbishment of the cathedral. So far, about 7,000 Catholics have responded and donated more than €290,000.

Businesses and private individuals support the restoration of the Godehard shrine

Hildesheim (bph) Senior doctors at the Hildesheim hospital, the cathedral building association, a number of different businesses and private individuals have donated a total of 120,000 euros towards the renovation of the Godehard shrine at Hildesheim cathedral. On the evening of Friday, 13 January, the donors were able to see the precious mediaeval reliquary for themselves.

Thomas Adamski sponsors the restoration of the head reliquary of St. Jacob

Hildesheim (bph) Everybody needs a good friend sometimes, and perhaps even a generous benefactor now and then. The jewels of Hildesheim Cathedral are no exception. Many of them are awaiting people who can help to restore them to their former glory. Hildesheim businessman Thomas Adamski is among the first of these ‘restoration sponsors’. He donated 7,600 euros for the restoration of the head reliquary of St. Jacob of Nisibis. On the afternoon of Wednesday 7 December, he personally gave ‘his’ art treasure a closer inspection.
