New organ-CD from the Hildesheim cathedral supports the cathedral-restoration
Hildesheim (bph) Briefly before closing down the cathedral the diocese Hildesheim pulled out all the stops of the cathedralorgan – and preserved the marvellous sound on a small disc: Few days ago an organ-CD from the Hildesheim cathedral is released with the young organ player Bernadetta Sunavska. Each time four euros out of the purchase price of 17 euros are donated for the cathedral-restoration. On Sunday, 6 December the Hildesheim diocesan chapter is going to present the CD officially at 3 pm in the cathedral. The organ player will play some parts of the CD.

Three night shifts Bernadetta Sunavska had to do, to burn all the sonority of the klaisorgan in the Hildesheim cathedral on CD. The recordings took place from 17 to 19 September in the cathedral – each time at night, because it was quiet then. These nights Sunavska made some interesting composers awake, which are familiar partly only to experts, but with their exeptional music have the highest requirements to organ player and organ and therewith gave Sunavska the chance to show all the proficiency of herself and the instrument.
Apart from the popular composer Johann-Sebastian Bach with his “Concerto a-Moll” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (“Fantasie in f”) sounds Leos Janacek as well, whose opus “Mladi” reminds of the folksongs of his Czech home. The Frenchman Marcel Dupré is represented with “Deux Esquisses” and the Norwegian Jon Laukvik with “Triptychon”. This three-parts opus was made 30 years before and provides many technical finesses. Sergej Prokofiev composed his “Toccata op. 11” in 1912, which was reworked by Jean Guillou for organ later. One of the most exceptional composers on the new CD is supposed to be the south-Korean Isang Yun, a wanderer between the musical worlds of the occident and the orient. 1975 his “Fragment für Orgel” was premiered in Hamburg. Sunavska transferred this complex work to Hildesheim.
The organ player Bernadetta Sunavska was born 1977 in Slovakia and received piano lessons since her early childhood. From 1991 until 1997 she studied at the academy of music piano and organ in Kosice, then changed to the college for music in Bratislava and there had the main subjects piano and organ. In 2001 Bernadetta Sunavska continued her training at the academy of music in Freiburg, in 2004 she changed to the academy of music in Stuttgart and graduated 2006 with the soloist-diploma. Since 2007 the artist is registered in masterstudies “historic keysinstruments - harpsichord” at the same college. The organvirtuoso has won numerous prizes and was honoured with various awards. Bernadetta Sunavska concerted as organvirtuoso in Europe, her repertoire comprises the most important epochs of the organ literature right up to the modern age.
In person you can get to know the artist and her work on Sunday, 6 December at 3 pm in the Hildesheim cathedral. After the greeting ot the cathedraldechant suffragan bishop Hans-Georg Koitz the cathedral-musicdirector Thomas Viezens and Klaus Faika by “Organum Musikproduktion” are going to present die CD. Hereafter Sunavska is playing some parts from the CD.
The CD “Hildesheimer Domorgel” was produced by “Organum Musikproduktion Klaus Faika” in association with the diocese Hildesheim. It has the overall length of about 80 minutes. A comprehensive booklet provides both in German and English background information on the cathedral-restoration, the cathedralorgan as well as about the artist and the selected works being played. The CD is to be acquired for the price of 17 euros in the cathedral shop as well as in the bookshops Decius in Hildesheim and Hannover or at the diocese Hildesheim. Four euros of the purchase price are donated for the restoration ot the Hildesheim cathedral.
